Geneva-Bardonnex border crossing: clearing a vehicle from France at the motorway customs office
By Anna Katharina Finsler, Managing Director, Finsler Customs GmbH · Last updated:
At the Geneva-Bardonnex motorway customs office we clear vehicles from France in the Basic package for CHF 350 incl. VAT. The office clears Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00, not on Saturdays. It closes for an hour at lunchtime. You enter the order online and collect the papers at the counter.
Where is the Geneva-Bardonnex border crossing?
Bardonnex is in the south of the canton of Geneva. At the motorway customs office the Swiss A1 meets the French A40 and A41 motorways; Saint-Julien-en-Genevois in Haute-Savoie is on the French side. The office «Bardonnex» (CH006251) is at Chemin des Epinglis 20.
Who is Geneva-Bardonnex a good fit for?
Geneva-Bardonnex suits vehicles from Haute-Savoie and Savoie, from Annecy, Chambéry or Lyon, in other words most of south-eastern France. On the Swiss side it is the nearest crossing for Geneva and western Switzerland along the A1 as far as Lausanne.
Lunch break at the counter
Between 12:00 and 13:00 Bardonnex does not clear vehicles. If you arrive in the morning, be at the counter before noon; otherwise you wait an hour. Vehicle imports are closed on Saturdays.
How customs clearance works with Finsler Customs
- Enter the order online. In the import calculator you choose the Basic package and the Geneva-Bardonnex crossing. Then you upload the purchase contract, registration certificate and COC and set the day you will cross the border.
- Declaration. We file the electronic import declaration for the vehicle. On site, a customs partner we work with handles the clearance for us.
- Collect the papers. On the agreed day you cross at Geneva-Bardonnex and collect the assessment notice and the inspection report 13.20 A at the counter in Bardonnex.
- Charges. The 4 % automobile tax and 8.1 % import VAT go through our customs account and are passed on without mark-up; import duty has been CHF 0 since 1 January 2024. Our flat fee: CHF 350 incl. VAT, the same at every crossing.
Export formalities in the country of origin are not part of the Basic package: the export declaration is made there by the seller or a customs agent. If you want us to handle transport and export as well, choose Comfort or Premium. With the inspection report 13.20 A you then book the vehicle inspection (MFK) and registration in your canton.
