Which crossing suits your vehicle?
The crossing depends on where the vehicle comes from. Vehicles from Germany, France, Italy or Austria use the crossings into that country. For Belgium and Luxembourg the calculator offers the crossings into Germany and France; vehicles from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden and Norway come via Germany. The calculator suggests the crossing nearest to where the vehicle is, and you can choose another one.
Three crossings where clearance happens inland
At Vallorbe (Chavornay), Great St Bernard (Martigny) and Simplon/Gondo (Brig) the vehicle is not cleared at the border itself but at a customs office further inland. That is where you collect the papers.
Clearing a vehicle on a Saturday
Only some customs offices handle vehicle imports on Saturdays. According to the FOCBS directory of customs offices these are:
- Thayngen–Bietingen: 08:00–12:00
- Kreuzlingen–Konstanz: 08:00–12:00
- Basel/Weil am Rhein motorway: 07:00–13:00
- Koblenz–Waldshut: 08:00–12:00
- Basel/Saint-Louis: 07:00–13:00
- Chiasso-Brogeda: 07:30–14:00
- Stabio: 08:00–12:00
How it works
You enter the order online, upload the papers and choose the day you cross the border. We file the electronic import declaration; on site, a customs partner we work with handles the clearance. You then collect the assessment notice and the inspection report 13.20 A (Swiss customs document needed for the vehicle inspection (MFK) and registration). Import duty is CHF 0; you pay 4 % automobile tax and 8.1 % import VAT, passed on without mark-up. Our flat fee is CHF 350 incl. VAT at every crossing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price the same at every crossing?
Yes. The Basic package costs CHF 350 incl. VAT at all 17 crossings, including those where clearance happens inland.
Can I choose any crossing?
You can choose any crossing into the country the vehicle comes from. For Belgium and Luxembourg that means the crossings into Germany and France; for the other countries without a Swiss border, the crossings into Germany.
Where do I collect the papers?
At the counter in the town where the vehicle is cleared. At most crossings that is the border itself; at Vallorbe it is Chavornay, at the Great St Bernard Martigny and at the Simplon Brig.
