Kreuzlingen–Konstanz border crossing: clearing a vehicle at the motorway customs office
By Anna Katharina Finsler, Managing Director, Finsler Customs GmbH · Last updated:
At the Kreuzlingen–Konstanz crossing we clear your vehicle in the Basic package for CHF 350 incl. VAT. The declaration goes to the Kreuzlingen motorway customs office at Zollhof 2, which clears vehicles Monday to Friday 07:00–17:30 and Saturday 08:00–12:00. You enter the order online, we declare it, you collect the papers at the counter.
Where is the Kreuzlingen–Konstanz border crossing?
The crossing links Konstanz on Lake Constance with Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau. The Swiss office for vehicles is the Kreuzlingen motorway customs office at Zollhof 2, where the A7 from Winterthur ends at the border. On the German side you reach Konstanz on the B33 from Singen and Radolfzell.
Konstanz and Kreuzlingen have grown together, and there are several small crossings between the neighbourhoods. In Kreuzlingen the FOCBS directory lists only the motorway office as a customs office; that is where the vehicle is declared.
Who is Kreuzlingen–Konstanz a good fit for?
Kreuzlingen makes sense if the vehicle is on Lake Constance or in Upper Swabia, for instance in Konstanz, Friedrichshafen or Ravensburg, or if you live in Thurgau, St. Gallen or the Winterthur area. Coming from Stuttgart on the A81, you usually drive straight to Thayngen, where our head office is.
Saturday mornings too
Kreuzlingen is one of the crossings on our list where you can also clear a vehicle on Saturdays, from 08:00 to 12:00. Four hours go by quickly, though. If you come on a Saturday, have the order fully entered beforehand so nothing is missing at the counter.
How customs clearance works with Finsler Customs
- Enter the order online. In the import calculator you choose the Basic package and the Kreuzlingen–Konstanz crossing. Then you upload the purchase contract, registration certificate and COC and set the day you will cross the border.
- Declaration. We file the electronic import declaration for the vehicle. On site, a customs partner we work with handles the clearance for us.
- Collect the papers. On the agreed day you cross at Kreuzlingen–Konstanz and collect the assessment notice and the inspection report 13.20 A at the counter in Kreuzlingen.
- Charges. The 4 % automobile tax and 8.1 % import VAT go through our customs account and are passed on without mark-up; import duty has been CHF 0 since 1 January 2024. Our flat fee: CHF 350 incl. VAT, the same at every crossing.
Export formalities in the country of origin are not part of the Basic package: the export declaration is made there by the seller or a customs agent. If you want us to handle transport and export as well, choose Comfort or Premium. With the inspection report 13.20 A you then book the vehicle inspection (MFK) and registration in your canton.
